WILMER CUTLER PICKERING HALE AND DORR
My biggest win was defeating the landmark antitrust challenge brought by 14 state attorneys general to enjoin the T-Mobile/Sprint merger.
As a trial lawyer, I was always convinced that, despite the predictive nature of antitrust law and its emphasis on economic analysis, the real-world facts about how the merged company would benefit consumers would matter to the outcome.
I was singularly focused on presenting those facts, chiefly through my witness examinations of John Legere (then-T-Mobile CEO) and Mike Sievert (then-T-Mobile president) that allowed them to bring the spirit of T-Mobile to the courtroom in an authentic, charismatic way.
Share two trial tips that have been key to your success.
1) I spend an inordinate amount of time getting to know the witnesses I examine at trial. It’s crucial to have authentic rapport with them.
2) Turn off the PowerPoint and look the jurors in the eyes. You don’t development a relationship of trust if you’re talking at people.
